Saturday nights in August at Emmanuel Faith are going to be really cool. Let me share some of what is coming up next week.
August 2
We welcome Pastor Dennis back from his vacation. He will begin a series on The Family and we’ll think together all month about the things God uses to pull families together in a world that tries to push them apart. Our topic for this night is “Humility, Harmony and the Home.” If you want to read and think over the passage he will be preaching from, go to Philippians 2.1-5.
We will also have a resource table chock-full of things to help you as a family to grow together spiritually, including a kid-friendly devotional guide that will follow the preaching topics from the pulpit for the month of August.
Don’t forget, too, that kids will be in the worship services with us for the month AND that we will be taking communion together next Saturday night. Please be sure to prepare your kids for this if they will be taking communion.
I encourage you to check back here weekly because we will be posting next week’s highlights each Sunday afternoon.
(Even better is to use the link in the upper right-hand column and sign up to receive an e-mail each time I post something on the page.)
Zontas will be with us this next Saturday night. They will be ministering during the offering and then they will stick around to provide some relaxing and inspiring music during our post-service dinner. If you are going to eat, please read down a couple of posts to see the menu and costs and then e-mail me by this Wednesday with your order. Or, you can place your order by making a comment on this post. Either way, I hope to see you Saturday night for worship and then a meal afterward.

Zontas
Zontas, from the Greek word meaning “alive”, is a unique wind quartet of flute, trumpet, clarinet, and bari sax.
Combining these voices into a blend of classical, jazz, and sacred music, our goal is to share the life that comes through Christ to the world around us.
I read this article and I thought, “Wow, this is awesome! I’d like to have that kind of influence and impact with my neighbors. I also thought, ‘This guy gets it. He is being good news to his neighborhood.’ I have along way to go, but this is how I’d like my neighbors to look at me and interact with me. I’d love it if they came up to me and told me they were praying for me and pulling for me to have a great Saturday night at church, or to get a ton of new people connected into small groups, or whatever it was that I was striving to do.”
I invite you to read the article and share what are your responses after reading it.

Dear Saturday Night Church Family and Guests,
Our next after-church dinner will be Saturday night, July 26. Let me tell you right now that you’re not going to want to miss it!
We will be having a subway/croissant sandwich night as well as special music for your dining pleasure!
For only $3.00 you get the following –
¨ sandwich,
¨ chips,
¨ drink,
¨ ice cream.
Here is the plan: we would like you to please plan to purchase your tickets in advance this Saturday night. Come to the table in the courtyard after the service and we will sell you a $3.00 ticket for each sandwich, etc. that you would like and then you can purchase additional drink tickets if you would like.
If you will not be at church, or will not be able to purchase your tickets in advance, don’t worry. Please let me know by July 23 that you will be eating, and how much and whether or not you want a croissant or subway style.
Blessings!
Scott
P.S. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair.
There are tons of ways we show our devotion to Jesus. I was reading in Nehemiah the other day during my devotional time and I was struck by this reality – the ancient Israelites showed God they were serious about Him through their obedience to His commands that they be people who gave financially.
This isn’t a popular topic to write about, and even less so from a church staff guy because it can look self-serving. Say what you will…
What I know from reading Nehemiah 10.32-39 is that these people were committed to God, so much so that it actually affected their wallets.
So, when I see someone who is making financial sacrifices for the Kingdom of God, then I know I’ve found someone who is really serious about Him.
Blessings,
Scott
So, I posted and e-mailed a request for 4 new people to help serve at the Holy Grounds cafe on Saturdays and I got four responses! Well done! I’ll be confirming with the individuals who responded and I’ll post something if we still need more. It doesn’t look like we will, though. This is fantastic! Thank you, Lord, for willing ministry partners.
Thanks, too, to the 2 people who stepped forward to teach the 1st/2nd grade class on Saturday nights in July. This is huge.
You all are awesome!
Scott
Hi Everyone,
Don’t you love the Holy Grounds Cafe? I know I do.
We need 4 people who will volunteer to serve once a month for the next three months. Full training is provided!
Here’s what we need
We need one person who can serve on 7/12, 8/9 and 9/6
We need one person who can serve on 7/26, 8/23 and 9/20
We need two people who can serve on 8/2, 8/30 and 9/27.
The time commitment is from 5:15-6:00 p.m. Then you attend the service and come out to serve for about 30-45 minutes after the service is over.
To sign up to serve in this way (did I mention we will train you and you’ll have a great time?), reply to this post!
“I loved, loved, loved it! A younger congregation, fantastic music, dancing in the pews, more people lifting their hands in praise, the casual atmosphere – they were all things I was seeking along with solid teaching of the Bible. They somehow make the church feel smaller and it felt like home.” – Kathy Bloomfield
